Hi. I need your help in proving the link of autoimmune diseases and caver (sic)along the Silk Road and uranium mining. My tribe, the Laguna pueblo, have an unsealed open uranium mine (as do the Navajo nation, with over 1200 sites) and there have been intergenerational devastating health issues as a result. I myself suffer from Crohn's disease, Bechets, Cataracts, Cancer, to name a few. There are many issues at hand. The most pressing is the consideration of mining on mount Taylor and getting the open mines properly contained and sealed. The reclamation did not work. Please reply to me. Mahalo

Hello E, Thank you so much for contacting me about your concerns on the Laguna Pueblo regarding the uranium mining. I have been very concerned for a very long time about the exposure of the Native Americans in the US, and First Nation People in Canada being exposed to toxic mining practices and waste. In fact, it was a pow-wow of the Western Shoshone that I went to in Nevada in 2000 for a week, and I was so impressed with all of the workshops they did over a 5 day period, that I have devoted my life since 2000 to educating Native people especially, as well as the public, about the dangers and health/environmental effects caused by radiation and other toxic exposures.

I have a very good book on free radicals in biology and medicine, and many diseases caused by radiation, by Oxford Univ. Press that proves many of the diseases you have mentioned in your message are caused by radiation. I will be very happy to provide you with the information you are looking for. I have worked at two nuke labs (Lawrence Berkeley Lab and Lawrence Livermore Lab) so I have been in their "house", and was fortunate to have some very very good scientists teach me for ten years (after I left the nuclear labs) everything they knew about radiation so that I could carry on with their message.

This is an excellent paper written by a Navajo student who wanted to prove that all of the breast cancer in her family was caused by uranium in the drinking water on the Navajo Reservation. It's really an outstanding and very important study, written because she loved her family members who were so unfortunate to get breast cancer. Uranium causes many illnesses, but it has a great impact on reproductive cancers and diseases because uranium is a hormone and estrogen disruptor. This is on the National Institute of Health website.

Kokopelli is my symbol for the impact that the uranium and other radiation exposures have on all living things. It's on my cards and stationary, and on the walls in my house too, I think Kokopelli protects all living things, especially reproduction, so he is carrying a heavy load on his back to keep us alive and protect reproduction in all species.
